To Diet or Not to Diet, That Is the Question

There seems to be a conflict between the ability to lose weight fast and healthy weight loss. A lot of times, the most recent diet fad would seem to be the better option. Diet pills and close to starvation diets will help you to lose weight faster but at what cost to your overall health?
Diet pills say that you can lose a lot of weight fast but don't really go over what side effects you may experience as a result. Even the most effective diet p
ills only can be taken for a short period of time. After six months your body develops a tolerance to it and its effectiveness diminishes and causes weight loss plateaus. And after that, if you don't continue with a healthy diet and exercise program, you could easily gain more weight. Fat blockers such as Xenical remove excess fat via the intestines and as a result can cause uncomfortable cramping, gas and diarrhea. Also, these fat blockers reduce the body's ability to absorb vitamins in the body. Sibutramine (Meridia) and other appetite suppressants stimulate the sympathetic nervous system which can raise your blood pressure and heart rate. Between February 1998 to March 2003 there have been 49 deaths attributed to sibutramine. Other side effects can include constipation, headaches, dry mouth and insomnia. Herbal diet pills can also have serious side effects. Herbal doesn't necessarily mean safe.

The healthy and sane approach may be a bit too slow for the dieter. But the healthy effects one can obtain may be a much long term way of life. Also, a lot of times the dieter goes on unpractical regimens and can't stay with it. Why not acquire healthy and practical habits that you can achieve? Here are a few things you can do to help with keeping on a practical and healthy diet:

EAT

As opposed to popular demand, you should eat healthy food regularly. Spread out your eating to several small meals a day. If you skip a meal it causes you to have a loss of energy and will cause you to eat a lot more at once. Spread out your meals and get some low-cal snacks. Nuts and fruit are great and will help increase your energy throughout the day.

EXERCISE

You don't have to be a weight lifter or a body builder. Just put in some small habits that can gain you more exercise time. For example, take the stairs. Or walk a portion of the way home from work. It doesn't have to be complex, just do it consistently.

EAT SLOWLY
Chew your food slowly. You enjoy your food more and it helps you to feel fuller faster.
